Cutter Races
The Shriner's All American Cutter Races are held at the Melody Ranch south of Jackson in February as an exciting part of Jackson Hole's yearly Winter Carnival.
Cutter races are a western version of horse-drawn chariot races. Cowboys thunder past the cheering crowd in cutters, pulled by a team of thoroughbreds. Teams are run two abreast for a 1/4 mile down the snowy (or muddy) track to the finish line. more info
The Jackson Hole Shriner's Club auctions off Calcutta wagers in between, adding to the excitement of each race!
"The cutters run so a child may walk" is the theme, as the proceeds go to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Fund.
