Initially teams of dogs and sleds were used by native people of the polar regions of the world in their everyday lives for transportation and work. Dogs and sleds were used to carry food, products, people and other things. Today, few of the inhabitants of the Far North are dependent on dogs for basic survival. However, sled dog racing has become a popular sport in various other regions of the world. more info

Jackson, Wyoming is fortunate to be the starting point of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR). Each year for the past twelve years, Jackson has been involved in the largest dog sled race to take place in the lower forty-eight states. From Jackson, through the snow covered landscape of Wyoming and finally ending in Park City, Utah, the IPSSSDR, is a favorite winter event for mushers, dogs and spectators alike.

The IPSSSDR has fast become a popular event on the mushing circuit and takes place in advance of the annual Montana's Race to the Sky and Alaska's Iditarod. Many teams participate in all three events. As the title sponsor for this race, Pedigree Food for Dogs promotes a wonderful sport and focuses on responsible pet ownership and the value that dogs have in society.

A great reason for wonderful winter fun, the IPSSSDR, provides a good time for the entire family – including your four legged canine members. Each "stage stop" along the course of the entire race displays their friendliness and hospitality to both spectators and participants with community events including kids' dog sled races, ice sculpture contents, banquets, winter carnivals and fishing derbies. The excitement is infectious!
