Jackson Hole is well known as a climbing mecca, with hundreds of climbing routes to choose from. The Teton Mountain range and other mountain areas around Jackson Hole provide excellent winter mountaineering and ice climbing opportunities. Our mountains are covered in deep snow during winter and well into late spring. Skis may be used to traverse untracked powder going to and from spectacular routes, making for a truly unique climbing experience. Extreme cold and ice makes winter climbing a dramatically different challenge than climbing during the warmer months. The pristine solitude of peaks during winter, cloaked by a blanket of powdery snow, provides a reward that will last a lifetime.
